Library
What is it?
The HINCT Library is a collection of books (and a couple of videos and audiotapes) on the subjects of pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding and parenting. It has been in existence for many years and as a result some of the books are old editions (although some may be of historical interest). The following is selection of what is available:
- The American Way of Birth by Nancy Mitford (1992)
- A selection of books by Sheila Kitzinger including Birth over thirty (1982) and birth over thirty-five (1994)
- Home Birth (a practical guide) by Nicky Wesson (1995)
- Emotionally Intelligent Parenting by Elias, Tobias and Friedlander (1999)
- Raising Boys by Stephen Bildulph (1998)
- The real nappy video
- MMR – what parents want to know (an NHS video)
Where Is It?
It takes up a little over a shelf in the study of a local volunteer and committee member.
Who can borrow from it?
Books can be borrowed by HINCT members. There is no charge at present. However, a number of books are missing and we may decide that a £5 deposit per book would be a good way of making sure that the books are returned.
How can I borrow from it?
Telephone on 07005 860 128 to get in contact with the librarian and arrange a time to come round. You can also e-mail library@hinct.org.uk and we will send you a copy of the latest book list. Please bring your membership card with you when you come to collect a book.
Future plans
We have a little money in the form of a voucher to spend at NCT Maternity Sales and we will be using that to acquire some useful books. We would also like to acquire a few more up to date books and would welcome your feedback. Are there any books you have read that you have found particularly useful (or any which you think we should avoid)? If you were really keen you could do a book review for the newsletter (and send it to the editor at newsletter@hinct.org.uk).
A little plea
If you have finished with any books which you think may be of interest to us please contact the librarian who would be delighted to come and collect them.
